An Unexpected Diagnosis

Routine bloodwork and a CT scan revealed that I did not have appendicitis (yay!), but what I did have was an 11 cm mass attached to my right ovary. And then came the words that changed everything:

“Stage 3 ovarian cancer, and it looks to be spreading.”

The urgent care doctor handed me a packet and urged me to go straight to the emergency room at LRH to be admitted for immediate surgery.

I drove home in silence.

How do you even begin to say those words to your husband? How do you tell him that life as you both knew it was about to shift in a way neither of you had planned for?

But God knew.
