Blooming Ambitions: Unveiling the Growth of Rose + Swan Co.
Rose + Swan Co. Started so that I would be able to have a creative outlet, with the ability to work from home, be with my kids, and homeschool. After moving to Lakeland, Florida from Portland, Oregon and finding out we were having baby no. 2, three days after landing here, the original plan of expanding my Dads residential renovation company (Skandia Design) to Florida was no longer an option. I still worked for him remotely, Designing Kitchens, bathrooms and residential add-on’s, utilizing video meetings with clients. that proved to be challenging and not conducive for renovation clients. So, my design outlet slowly dissolved. I was given the opportunity to rebrand and design my church’s (Bethel Baptist Church) website and quickly rediscovered my creativity and a beneficial outlet for it! From that seed, Rose + Swan Co. was nurtured, supported (with lots of prayer!) and sprouted!
I Landed on Rose + Swan Co. as the name of my business to honor my past of growing up in Portland, which is called “The City of Roses” and the place that has “taken” in our family and helped me grow (very quickly I might add!) Lakeland.. Also known as “Swan City”. I could have chosen “Websites by Meaghan” or something more obvious, but the meaning behind Rose + Swan Co. holds so much more weight for me. Which, is how I direct my clients, to find meaning and purpose behind their branding. From there, everything else will fall into place.
HOT TAKE, I don’t think Rose + Swan Co. is “unique”! To me it is, sure! But, I’m not naïve, there are many talented web design and branding freelancers out there. And guess what, that’s ok! It doesn’t scare or intimidate me. I want them to succeed and give their clients the best for their business. My objective for Rose + Swan Co. is to partner with small businesses who are either starting out, growing, or re-branding, with purpose to serve their community and provide for their families.
A hard truth, not everyone is good at design. There, I said it, but keep reading! Putting together a social media post from a template doesn’t make you good at design. I’m sorry, I know it’s fun, but there’s so much more to web presence and representation than putting some words over a photo. Social media, though pivotal and essential for businesses, has done to the web design world what HGTV did to the renovation world: 1: make everyone think they can do something costly, for 1/4 the price and 2: that they can do something that they just don’t have the ability to. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll binge me some Chip and Jo, but you cannot hire a contractor (or a quality one any way) to gut, remove walls and renovate an entire kitchen for 10k. It’s called production money! (I know this because we were approached by one.) Websites, branding and online presence is not easy, there are so many aspects most are blissfully unaware of nor have the desire to learn. That’s why you work with someone who has the skill and that desire. For example; I, personally absolutely hate working in the yard. (Thanks to weed pulling as punishment as a kid. And no, I don’t need therapy, I know the source of this hate!) So, if my husband didn’t mow the lawn and maintain our yard, I would, without a doubt, pay a landscaping company to do that dreaded task for me. We do this in so many aspects of our lives. Accountants, (if you need one, I recommend AccuXel and Blossom Wealth Co.!), pool companies, even getting your oil changed. We utilize other’s skills on a daily basis. So, why struggle with the digital landscape and it’s rapidly changing nature when you’re too busy working to provide for you and your family? Don’t worry, I’ve got your back on that front! (See what I did there?!)
My mission with Rose + Swan Co. is to help other small businesses feel proud to represent their brand. I’m passionate in helping clients to get the most out of the digital space. There is a lot that goes into designing and developing a cohesive, beautiful brand. With Rose + Swan Co. I work with small business owners in developing, creating and achieving their branding goals so they don’t have to handle the daunting digital world.
When I connect with clients, I keep Matthew 5:16 at the base of my interactions. “LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE BEFORE MEN, THAT THEY MAY SEE YOUR GOOD WORKS AND GLORIFY YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN.” As a Christian, I am called to glorify and grow His Kingdom. I have many flaws, and only through His grace and mercy am I able to spread the light of His goodness.
Don’t let the overwhelm of the digital space prevent you from having a brand and online presence that reflects your blood, sweat and tears. Let Rose + Swan Co. help you Cultive Your Dream! Reach out to me, don’t hesitate!
